Julia LoRusso is a rising Canadian soprano known for her vocal agility and expressive performance. In October 2025, she made her house debut with Vancouver Opera as Countess Ceprano in Verdi’s Rigoletto, also covering the role of Gilda. She is currently covering Despina in Mozart’s Così fan tutte and Musetta in Puccini’s La Bohème.
Other performed roles include Lauretta in Puccini’s Gianni Schicchi, Morgana in Handel’s Alcina, Amore in Monteverdi’s L’incoronazione di Poppea, Nannetta in Verdi’s Falstaff, and Miss Wordsworth in Britten’s Albert Herring.
In 2025, Julia was the recipient of the Encouragement Award at the Metropolitan Opera Laffont Competition (Indiana District). She won First Place in the International Music Grand Prix (Adult Classical Voice) and was a semifinalist in the Giulio Gari Foundation International Voice Competition, both held in New York City. In 2024, she placed Third in the Toronto Mozart Vocal Competition and performed in concert with the Toronto Mozart Players that spring.
An accomplished collaborator, Julia has performed with orchestras and chamber ensembles and looks forward to appearing as the soprano soloist in the Canadian premieres of Kati Agócs’s Hosanna of the Clouds and Dame Ethel Smyth’s Mass in D major with the Vancouver Bach Choir and Vancouver Metropolitan Orchestra.
Julia is a current member of Vancouver Opera’s Yulanda M. Faris Young Artist Program. She holds a Master of Music degree from Western University in her hometown of London, Ontario.
